Why I Dumped PDP, Says Ex-Minister, Abdullahi

A former minister of Sports and Kwara born- politician, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Abdullahi, a close ally of the former Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, announced his resignation from the PDP in a letter he addressed to the chairman of the party in his Ubandawaki ward of Ilorin West local government area of Kwara State.

LEADERSHIP sighted Abdullahi’s letter dated 16th December, 2024.

A close ally of the former minister, Alh Mas’ ud Adebimpe, who was a former chief press secretary to Dr Bukola Saraki, confirmed the development to LEADERSHIP in Ilorin on Monday.

In his resignation letter, Abdullahi said he reached the “difficult” decision after days of reflection and introspection.”

The former minister’s letter reads: “I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). ”

I have had ample time to reflect, and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time.

“Mr. chairman, please permit me to express, through you, my gratitude to the leadership of the party for the opportunities that I have had to serve the state and the country on its platform, and for the great moments we have shared.”

The leadership of the PDP in the state described Abdullahi’s decision to resign from the party as personal.

The state publicity secretary of the PDP, Olushola Adewara said this in a response to LEADERSHIP’s enquiry on the development.

Adewara added: “We wish the former minister well in his adventures. The decision is personal to him as it is reflected on his letter of resignation, and he didn’t state whether the party or our leader offended him in person, so there’s no ill feeling.

“He chose to come to politics without getting permission from anybody, and if he’s leaving based on his personal conviction without throwing tantrums at anyone , the party can only wish him good luck on his adventure.”
